Competency Modeling
Competency modeling clarifies the leadership expectations of the organization for its executives.
A competency model consists of the key skills and behaviors necessary for successful implementation
of the business strategy and serves as a guide for employees and leaders alike for selection,
performance management, career development and succession planning.
Organizations change only when people change and a competency model drives home the strategic
direction and leadership behaviors that will be required to achieve company goals.
A competency model also serves as a strategic basis and platform for a 360 evaluation of leaders'
performance in demonstrating the desired behaviors. It can also be used to determine criteria for
hiring, promotion and succession planning.
Planning succession based on competencies, not job titles, will provide the flexibility necessary
to have the right people in the right places doing the rights things at the right time to reach
the right goals.
